There's a famous saying: A strong woman stands for herself whereas, a stronger woman stands up for everyone else. Hence we can agree to this quote as women are our home-makers and are capable of handling the home as well as handling out of home jobs. Talking about defence many people used to think that Girls shouldn't go for jobs like defence or police. But now the mentality has changed. Government has introduced exams for women candidates also and has not kept any difference between male and female candidates. In the year of 1992, the Indian Army took the landmark decision of inducting women into officers’ cadre in various arms and services or the armed force. Since then, several avenues have opened up for women willing to be part of the Indian Army. Working for the nation no doubt is the most respectable job hence if interested and getting a chance type should never lose the opportunity.
We have shortlisted some of the most demanding careers in the stream of Defence:
CDS Defined as Combined Defence Services Examination:
Women officers are formally admitted in the Indian Army through the Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) scheme. Those girls who are thinking of joining the Indian Army must go for CDS Examination. This examination is conducted by UPSC twice in a year, in the months of July and November.
Short Service Commission (Technical) Women:
This is another reputed option for women Candidates who want to join Indian Army. You can apply under the Short Service Commission (Technical) Scheme which would belong to the technical division. This scheme also comes twice in a year which is directly notified by Directorate General. This scheme is recruiting twice a year, in the month of June/July and December/January.
Short Service Commission (Non-Technical)Women:
This particular exam is conducted under the Combined Defence Service examination. Those candidates who are willing to apply must be a graduate from a recognized university. The exam is conducted twice in a year.
NCC (SPL) Entry Women:
THose girls who have a dream of joining the Defence since childhood can opt for NCC in their school and college days. Women NCC Cadets can be inducted in the Indian Army through the NCC (SPL) Entry Women scheme. Vacancies under this scheme are notified by the Directorate General Recruiting twice in a year, in the month of June and December.
Women candidates who want to join in Indian Air Force:
Flying (Pilot) Short Service Commission Your age should be between 19-23 years. Also, you must be a Graduate degree (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or BE / B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.
University Entry Scheme (UES):
You must have completed the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) or Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) stream. Those applying for Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) Branch should have completed your engineering from ECE Stream and candidates applying for Aeronautical Engineer (Mech) Branch should have to complete their engineering from Mechanical Stream.
The Eligibility criteria vary regarding age in all the above-specified posts. Nonetheless, the common age group starts from 19-27. Hence if you are in between this age group you can go for defence. Nad the most eligibility criteria required are you must be Unmarried. The educational qualification varies in some they ask for 12th pass and in some graduate also in the technical background they need engineering as an eligibility criterion.
